Gervonta Davis has expressed a bleak outlook on boxing`s future, a statement that comes days after he chose to fight Jake Paul in an exhibition match instead of pursuing a rematch with Lamont Roach.
In March, `Tank` fought Lamont Roach at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn for the WBA lightweight title, a bout that unexpectedly ended in a draw against the lesser-known opponent. The fight was marked by a controversial moment in the ninth round when Davis took a knee, yet the referee did not count it as a fight-altering knockdown.
A scheduled August rematch with Roach was canceled due to legal complications. Davis subsequently signed a deal to face Jake Paul in Miami on November 14. This upcoming fight has drawn significant criticism, largely due to the considerable size disparity between the two fighters.

Despite being only 30 and arguably in the prime of his career, with numerous world-class opponents available in his weight division – including a potential rematch with Ryan Garcia, a challenge against Devin Haney at a higher weight, or a fight with frequent caller-out Shakur Stevenson – Davis seems to be charting a different course.
However, Davis appears disinclined to pursue the matchups desired by fans and fellow boxers. On X (formerly Twitter), he posted: “Boxing definitely did a turn.. It went from this side to that side.. And this s— has no loyalty so why would I care? I move accordingly. BOXING IS DEAD.”
Responding to a fan who suggested a fight with Stevenson, Davis retorted: “Lol, that’s how I know it’s hate and jealousy.. Becuz [sic] you not even telling me to fight my rematch.. Telling me to fight someone else when you got hurt and more s— in the fight.. But y’all d—ing riding his big bro NOW.. Where was this energy 2-3 fights again? You are a real lame. Y’all all are.”
